The Kistler powered Maxim chassis w20 along with The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series continued on their year ending tour of the west coast with a weekend double header at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California for the 64th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions.
In front of a packed house both nights forty cars filled the pits for a shot at winning this prestigious event on this quarter-mile dirt oval. On opening night, Greg would qualify eleventh in Flight B, run seventh in his 10-lap, heat race and finish eleventh in the 12-lap, LCS missing a transfer into Friday’s main event. Night 2 of the Gold Cup saw Greg qualify nineteenth in Flight A and pulled out of his 10-lap, heat race with some mechanical issues. The w20 was then forced to run the C-Main and unfortunately the evening came to an early ending with a sixth place finish.
“This has been a challenging weekend,” shared Greg. “We had some issues with the car and we just couldn’t recover. This deal can be very humbling at times and you have periods like this. I’ve been doing this enough years to know this happens. You keep your head up and just keep moving forward…you know it will change with hard work and keeping the faith.”
The Hercules Tire, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics, All Star Plumbing, Gear Alloy Wheels, Bedford Valley Petroleum, Weikel Sportswear backed w20 team returns back to action with The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series for two nights of racing on Friday, September 15 and Saturday, September 16 for the Wine Country Classic at Calistoga Speedway in Calistoga, California.
